Spotify, one of the world's most competitive and largest music streaming source is rumored to be having plans about expanding it's market to a few new regions in Asia.
A while ago, Apple Music launched in India and is finding a pretty tough competition in the market with the already present very high competing music streaming apps like Saavn, Gaana and many more as such. According to the Google Play store records of June 24th 2017, Apple Music has 10 million downloads and stands as an equal to Gaana, Saavn and Wynk music apps. Also the Google Play Music app is ahead with 1 billion downloads. Apple's music app has surely failed itself as it is ranked lowest of it's competitors.

The Rankings on Google Play Store
APP Downloads Stars
Jio Music - 10 million 4.5
Gaana - 10 million 4.3
Saavn - 10 million 4.2
Wynk - 10 million 4.2
Apple Music - 10 million 3.5
Spotify has even opened to Indonesia recently. The company has made news of it launching in India in 2017. There has not been any official statement but some websites have stated about a grand launch in 2017 or early 2018.
As India is already having a huge competition in this market, Spotify may take time in opening up. To compete in this sort of environment, they would need to compromise and enhance their offers which they might not prefer at this moment.
After a lot of waiting, spotify launched in Japan in september 2016. People in India are also waiting for this brand to launch, but there is no confirmed news. People in India use VPN services to use spotify and even the premium modified apps can be found free all over the internet. Even after so many competitors, spotify can do great working in the Indian market because of its all-time high demand. A big part of the Indian youth does not like the present Indian apps and prefer more international and stylish apps which spotify can surely offer.
People can only hope for Spotify to launch in India.
Another big name, Amazon Music which launched in the US in 2014 is also making news about launching in India by 2018. It might be difficult, but for spotify if its not now, its never going to make it in this highly competitive market.
